Researching the Culture and Mentalities of Early Modern Poland,
from the Fifteenth to the Eighteenth century
The Center for the Study of Culture and Mentalities in Early Modern Poland is a research unit of the Institute of History and Archival Studies at the University of the National Education Commission, Krakow. Working in collaboration with partners in Poland and abroad, we conduct interdisciplinary research on the cultural history and mentalities of early modern Poland.
What we do
Our research focuses on the history of the family, family rituals and ceremonies, the structure and culture of royal, magnate, and noble courts, everyday life, education, and the material culture of earlier periods. We organize biennial international conferences, semiannual research seminars, and educational workshops, and publish scholarly monographs and editions of primary sources in open access.
International collaboration
The Center maintains lasting research partnerships with scholars and institutions in Aberdeen, Viterbo, Opava, Prešov, Prague, Lviv, Kyiv, and Vilnius. We welcome collaboration with researchers, doctoral candidates, and students from Poland and abroad.
