Digital Humanities Team

The Digital Humanities Team applies digital methods to the scholarly editing of historical sources, in support of the wider research programme of the Center for the Study of Culture and Mentalities in Early Modern Poland. Its principal focus is the preparation of digital editions of source material bearing on the culture and mentalities of pre-modern Poland, though its work is not confined to that period or territory, and extends to sources of broader European and comparative interest.

The Team understands editorial work in a broad sense. Alongside the transcription, annotation, and digital publication of textual sources – correspondence, legal records, testaments, and other archival and printed material – it undertakes the edition and study of cartographic sources, treating historical maps both as objects of scholarly editing in their own right and as instruments for the spatial analysis of social and cultural phenomena.

A further aim of the Team is to make the editions and resources it produces openly accessible to scholars and to the wider public, in durable and well-documented digital form, in keeping with current standards of scholarly editing and data curation.
