Center for Research on the Culture and Mentality of Old Poland

General Provisions

§ 1

The Center for Research on the Culture and Mentality of Old Poland, hereinafter referred to as the “Center,” is an organizational unit operating within the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow, hereinafter referred to as the “University,” as part of the Institute of History and Archival Studies, hereinafter referred to as the “Institute.”

The Center’s activities are governed by the University Statute, hereinafter referred to as the “Statute,” and these Regulations, hereinafter referred to as the “Regulations.”
The Center may be established, reorganized, or dissolved by the Rector upon the request of the Director of the Institute.
The Center has its own seal, identification mark (logo), and maintains its own website.
The Center makes use of the University’s teaching and infrastructural facilities, primarily those of the Institute, in accordance with the rules that apply to all University units.


Objectives and Tasks of the Center

§ 2

The Center is a research and educational unit. Its main objective is to conduct scholarly research on the history of culture and mentality of Old Poland within the broadly understood European context, as well as to engage in educational and outreach activities in this field.
In particular, the tasks of the Center include:

  1. organizing academic conferences, workshops, and scholarly seminars;

  2. organizing academic debates;

  3. publishing scholarly articles and monographs;

  4. initiating publishing initiatives, editing, and providing patronage for scholarly works (monographic books and publishing series);

  5. organizing competitions for the best theses devoted to the cultural history and mentality of Old Poland;

  6. cooperating and building partnerships with institutions in Poland and abroad that share similar research interests;

  7. organizing educational courses  and lectures within the framework of the University’s commercial services;

  8. applying for grants and research projects.


Organizational Structure of the Center

§ 3

Substantive, organizational, and financial supervision over the activities of the Center is exercised by the Director of the Institute.
The Center is managed by a Director who is appointed and dismissed by the Rector upon the request of the Director of the Institute.
The Center comprises members appointed by the Rector at the request of the Director of the Center.
The Director of the Center is responsible for planning and implementing the Center’s activities and for managing its assets and finances.
With the consent of the Council of the Institute of History and Archival Studies, the Director of the Center may establish a Scientific Council of the Center, which serves as an advisory and consultative body.
The Scientific Council consists of the Director of the Institute and scholars from various academic institutions engaged in research on the history and culture of Old Poland.
Decisions in the Center’s collegial bodies are adopted by a simple majority of votes.
In the event of disputes, the final decision rest with the Director of the Institute of History and Archival Studies.


Responsibilities, Tasks, and Powers of the Director of the Center

§ 4

The Director of the Center:

  1. manages the Center’s activities and ensures the proper performance of its tasks;

  2. submits requests to the Director of the Institute of History and Archival Studies for the assignment of the Institute staff to work for the Center;

  3. is responsible for the quality of research and for all other activities conducted within the Center;

  4. manages the Center’s finances in cooperation with the Director of the Institute.

The Director of the Center submits an annual report on the Center’s activities to the Director of the Institute no later than January 30 of the following year.


Assets and Financing of the Center

§ 5

Financial resources for the Center’s activities and operations may derive from national and international grants and subsidies intended for research projects, conferences, seminars, and publishing activities.
The Director of the Center is obliged to manage the Center in compliance with the principles of public financial management.
The Director of the Institute of History and Archival Studies is responsible for the proper management of financial resources and entrusted assets.
The Director of the Center remains responsible for managing the Center’s assets within the scope delegated by the Director of the Institute.
The Center’s activities are accounted for within the Institute, and the Center’s financial results are consolidated into the Institute’s overall financial results.
Separate accounting records are not maintained for the Center.


Final Provisions

§ 6

In matters not addressed in these Regulations, decisions must be made by the Director of the Center in consultation with the Director of the Institute.
Amendments to the Regulations must be made in accordance with the procedure specified in the Statute.
